Today I got to interview the wonderful S.J Kincaid! She is the author of The Diabolic- a book known for it's super kick ass action and characters!

With that, let's get on with the interview!

1. What inspired the story of the Diabolic?

The Diabolic was inspired by my love of I, CLAUDIUS, a BBC drama. I really wanted to write a story of a boy born into a murderous royal family who has to feign some weakness to survive them. However, I was tired of writing a boy's pov after Insignia, so that boy became a secondary character.

2. If you can have your own Diabolic, who would it be and why?

Oh, I don't think I'd want one. I don't really have any enemies out to destroy me... yet.

3. Which character can you relate to more? Sidonia or Nemesis?

Ooh, hard to say. I'd say I personally relate most to Tyrus!

4. What is your favorite YA book/series that you would recommend to anyone?

My favorite YA book right now is the brilliant EXO by Fonda Lee. It is just so intelligent and thoughtful and interesting, and I rave about it everywhere.

5. Can you describe your writing process? How do you start writing a book and how do you organize your thoughts and ideas?

I generally have to know quite early how a book is going to end, and I know the major scenes. The beginning involves feeling out what will lie ahead, and then I get a firm idea of the story. I have to sit down to write knowing what I intend to write that day. As for organization... Generally all in my head.

6. Who is your ultimate YA book boyfriend?

Ooh.... Hard to say! I love the funny guys with a great sense of humor. Failing that, I'd go for a Darkling... Just to see how we get along. I do love a brain.

7. What advice would you like to give to aspiring writers?

I would give them the advice to read a lot, write a lot, and grow a thick skin. Many very talented people want to write. The people who succeed are the ones who can endure the ridiculous number of rejections and barriers that will arise to hinder their attempts to get published. Thick skin must be grown.

8. What works can we look forward to from you in the future?

. I am writing two more Diabolic books! I am very excited about them. I meant it to be a stand-alone, but got this fabulous idea I am infatuated with, so I hope you guys will love it, too.

And that was the interview! Thank you once again S.J Kincaid for agreeing to let me interview you and I hope you guys enjoyed it! Make sure to check out The Diabolic if you haven't yet!
