Author Interview: Gena Showalter, author of Firstlife

Hi guys! I got to interview the lovely Gena Showalter, author of The Alice in Zombie land series and the First Life series! I really liked Alice in Zombie land so make sure to check it out if you haven't done so yet! Check my reviews page for my review!

Also, make sure to check out her sequel to First life, Life Blood which just came out last month!

Interview:

1.     What inspired you to write Firstlife?
GS:  I love scripture, and there are numerous scriptures about kingdoms not of this earth, kingdom vs. kingdom, a war between spiritual forces-and the power of choice, life and death, blessing and cursing, light and dark, good and evil.  Those themes combined and the idea to write a series where life as we know it is just a dress rehearsal and real life actually begins after death—where two opposite realms are in power—was born.  Of course, I had to add a forbidden romance to the mix!

 2.     What character can you relate to more? Ten (Firstlife) or Alice (From Alice in Zombieland)?
GS:  I love both girls, but I think I relate more to Ten.  Her obsession with numbers reminds me a little of my obsession with finishing a book once I start.  I’m driven to finish.  I think about the characters and the plot waking and sleeping until the rough draft is done.

3.     If you were to sort your top 4 characters from your books in to Hogwarts houses, what house would they be in and why?

GS:  Here is where I duck down and make a confession…are you ready…oh, my gosh, I can’t believe I’m admitting this but…I’ve never read the Harry Potter books!

4.     What YA book would you recommend to anybody?

GS:  I’m a huge Kresley Cole fan, and her Arcana Chronicles are some of my absolute favorite books.  Exciting, thrilling, sexy—I can’t get enough!

5.     Say you were to choose a book boyfriend from one of your own books! Who would he be and why?

GS:  I have such a cougar crush on Killian Flynn.  Is he a hero, or is he a villain?  He’s irreverent and sexy, and he melts for only one girl. I want to be that girl!

6.     What other works can we expect from you in the future?

GS:  I’ve got a new Lords of the Underworld novel coming in June (The Darkest Promise, featuring an iron-willed king and the somber demon-possessed beauty who melts him with a glance) and later in the year two contemporary romances in my Original Heartbreakers series, Can’t Hardly Breathe and Can’t Let Go.  Tortured alpha heroes and the women who bring them to their knees!

 7. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

GS:  Write for an audience of one.  You can’t please everyone.  What one person loves, another will hate, and what one hates another will love.  Write what you love, and your passion for it will shine through.

And that was my interview! Thank you so much Gena for letting me interview you! Guys if you haven't checked out her books then please do so because they are fantastic!
